The Power of Acceptance: Embracing Change for a Brighter Future
When people come into drug rehab, it is not because they are loving their lives. Most people who have hit a bottom, and are willing to accept help for their addiction, are very unhappy. Some can't stand their lives, even one more day. These are some of the bravest people in the world, - those willing to face who and what they have become, reach out for help, and be open to learning a new way to live. They deserve the greatest of respect. A good drug rehab facility treats their guests with dignity and respect at all times.
The rehab treatment experience helps people to see their lives in a new light. Recovery is a process and the full healing of body, mind and spirit takes time. However, sometimes it happens in the twinkling of an eye, a new way to see the world emerges from the darkness. One of the tools sometimes used in the Spiritual Sessions at Serenity Vista are optical illusions. Our guests love them. They demonstrate how easy we can be fooled by our senses, into believing something that is just not authentic. Or maybe there are several different ways to look at things.
How many legs does the elephant in the picture have? Well, we think the answer should be four, but can we be sure? What else in your life appears to be one way, when it is actually another? A great slogan for your tool kit: "Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at change".
Most traditional therapeutic approaches are problem focused. For example, in alcoholism, focusing on why you drink, identifying triggers, and developing coping mechanisms to not drink. While this can be a beginning, our focus is more present focused on living in the solution. Experientially learning to live clean and sober, in the present moment, with peace of mind and heart.
So, in contrast to focusing on the problem, it is more helpful in the long term to move into living in the solution. It involves radical change in life-long patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviors and is ultimately life changing. It’s not about “coping with problems”, but moving beyond problem identification into “living in the solution”; living life with acceptance, gratitude, and abundance. It takes time, and a willingness to let go of all that is familiar, trust, and be open to change. Life transformational change. It means getting out of your comfort zone and challenging ‘everything’.
Complete immersion into a new way of living and being for 45, 70 or 90 days at a quality drug rehab literally forces a person to examine every area of their lives. Choosing a private-pay, holistic, and international drug rehab like Serenity Vista even gets you to a new country. Panama is quite a destination of amazing animals, foods and sights.
