The Power of Acceptance: Embracing Change for a Brighter Future
Active addicts and alcoholics tell lies. Deceit is one of the hallmark symptoms of addiction. It is fairly impossible for anyone active in their drug addiction or other forms of addictive behavior to not be telling lies to themselves or to others. Denial runs so deep, that honesty cannot coincide with getting and staying loaded. In recovery, we learn that we must begin to get honest, with ourselves, our Higher Power, and with others. In fact, in one of the readings from the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, read at almost every AA meeting, states that pretty much anybody can get sober, if they have the capacity to be honest. Anyone. And what is required, is the whole truth, not half-truths. In a good drug rehab, you will be challenged to get honest in ways that you didn't even know were possible. And this is good news, because the truth will set you free, but it hurts a lot first. And really, that is ok, because feelings won’t kill you, but addiction will.
